Set up DNS-over-TLS

DoT is the native encrypted-DNS protocol on Android 9+ and modern routers. Pick your platform below, paste the hostname, and every app on the device starts using your Dnsium resolver on port 853.

Platform-by-platform walkthroughs

Every step uses the values from the quick-reference card above. If you opened this page from your dashboard, the hostname is already filled in for you.

Windows 11

Windows 11 added system-wide DoT support in build 25309 (preview channels first, then 23H2). Each adapter is configured separately.

  1. Open Settings → Network & internet, click the active adapter (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), and pick Hardware properties.

  2. Click Edit next to DNS server assignment and switch from Automatic to Manual.

  3. Enable IPv4 and set Preferred DNS to the server IP:

    your-server-ip
  4. Set DNS over TLS to On and paste the DNS over TLS template (server name):

    your-server.dnsium.com
  5. Save. Reboot if Windows complains the change is not yet active.
